Tecomate Strut Report – MS – March 18, 2015
Finally Sun! !!!!! After weeks of wet and nasty weather the clouds break giving way to golden rays of delight; and to the Magnolia State's opening week of turkey season. The past couple days have been beautiful with turkeys finally starting to gobble some. Birds here in North Mississippi have not warmed up fully but are beginning to act like spring turkeys. I was very fortunate to harvest this double bearded gobbler this morning. He was hanging out with two other long beards and only gobbled a couple times on the roost. The trio went silent for an hour after hitting the ground. I made numerous setups calling several times with no response. Then after repositioning many times and moving through the timber ever so quietly; I was able to get to a place where the birds would answer my calling. It wasn't long after that when the group came marching in and my Remington 870 did the rest.
God Bless and happy hunting.
