AIM TRUE

1 Corinthians 9:23: I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it. 26Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air…

When hunting big whitetails, I always sight in my rifle so I can hit what I aim at and I always have a plan. I don’t just walk into the woods and hope a big buck will stroll by me. I take all sorts of factors into account before I ever step foot in the woods – hunting history, time of year, rut phase, weather, food sources, size of property, habitat, hunting pressure, possible tactics, target buck size, property rules, regulations, freedom to scout, competition, etc. I size up the situation and make a plan. Yes, it may change with time and information, but I always go with purpose, ready to take “aim” and hit the target when the time comes.

I wish I could say the same thing about something far more important than hunting big whitetails – representing Jesus by sharing the Good News of the gospel. We are called to “run in such a way, as not without aim…box in such a way, as not beating the air.“ Too often I walk into “God’s woods” without being sighted in and without a plan, hoping for success…or if the truth be known, hoping I will have no need to take aim. But then, I think about the incredible free gift of grace I have received, paid for by the precious blood of Jesus at the Cross. That’s when I see clearly that I, like all who believe, have no greater calling than to be an effective ambassador for Christ wherever we go, whatever we do! After all, representing Jesus well is the greatest prize of all!
