Where’s Your Treasure?
by Tecomate Wildlife Systems

by Samantha Davis
Matt. 19-21: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

I have a room full of trophies from all over the world. They represent the memories of a lifetime of hunting, an endeavor for which I have an endless passion, especially for big whitetails. On my wall is a collection of record-class whitetails that includes 34 topping 170 gross B&C. Something I consider a miracle and blessing from God. I’ve hunted the great game animals of the world, including most of the dangerous game – grizzly, Kodiak, lion, leopard, elephant, hippo and cape and water buffalo. They are all in my trophy room … but these trophies are NOT the things I treasure most in life. I place NO hope in them or any other worldly possession or endeavor. My most valued “treasure”, indeed, my only hope lies solely in my relationship with Jesus Christ.

The only things I do, the only “investments” I make that have lasting value are those that I do out of my faith in Jesus. All else will fade away. My trophies will someday end up dust-covered and moth-eaten in an attic or on a trash heap, but my faith in Jesus and what I do that flows from that faith will never fade away and will be an everlasting treasure paying dividends for all eternity. When I’m no longer on this earth, I don’t want to leave with only a collection of great trophies. Rather, I want to leave with treasures laid up in heaven, where my heart and my hope is!
