today…there has been born to you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord

Luke 2:11: …”today…there has been born to you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Sitting on a deer stand allows a fellow time to think about the privilege of enjoying God’s Creation and the animals He has given us stewardship over. Yet for much of this fall, sitting idly on a deer stand has also given me time to, well…worry. You see, both my brother and sister were diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few months ago and have been undergoing chemo treatments. But alas, the last couple of weeks I’ve spent much of my stand time rejoicing because my sister, Suanne, has experienced a miracle! Literally, a MIRACLE! After doctors initially found over 40 tumors in her body, now all evidence of cancer is GONE! The doctors at M.D. Anderson Hospital, the famed cancer institute in Houston, marveled at her turnaround with statements like “this is unheard of” and “we’ve never seen anything quite like this!”

As a Christian, I see the power of prayer in her healing and the truth of Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:26, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Our whole family anxiously awaits the same miraculous healing for my brother, Flynn, who is already doing much better. So now with Christmas just around the corner, much of my time on the stand is spent in celebration – for the healing of my sister, for the coming healing of my brother, and most of all, for the birth of the Great Physician, the One who can heal both body and soul, the “Savior of the world,” JESUS CHRIST!
