Shedding Blood

Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, John 19:34: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side.

This may sound somewhat barbaric, but as opening day for archery season gets closer I find myself thinking about shedding some blood! It really does not matter if it’s a buck or a doe, it’s just something about piercing the side of deer that makes us bow hunters go back to the woods year after year. Drawing blood seems to satisfy us deep from within somehow.

Also, as I think about this, I am reminded of Jesus' shed blood on the cross at Calvary. Without His shed blood our sins could not have been forgiven. Without His shed blood our sinful heart could not have been cleansed. Without His shed blood the fountain of grace never would have reached us. There are many people say that they do not believe in that barbaric stuff and that Jesus did not have to die for them to go to heaven. The Bible says they are wrong. Jesus was the prefect sacrifice for our sins and He did have to bleed and die in order for us to have "The Way" into heaven. Jesus is the only Way and if you believe this in your heart you can be saved and have your ticket to heaven punched.

If you are lucky enough to shed some blood this season think of what Jesus did on the cross for you. Even though your harvest may be satisfying, having Jesus in your life will be more fulfilling and satisfying than anything this world could ever give you. Something else to remember, Jesus' side was pierced also while He was on the cross. Just think about all these things when you pierce the side of your trophy this year.

Good luck, happy hunting, and God bless!!
