If whitetail supposedly require approximately 3000 pounds of food per year, will a 250 acre plantaion with several multi acre plots yielding anywhere from 5-8 thousand pounds per acre, along with the native forage, provide enough food to carry 40-50 deer? I don’t intend on fencing the property, i think its too small but the deer herd has been slaughtered by previous hunters. I just wanna create a suitable habitat for me and other family members(about 7) to hunt quality deer and maybe take the same amount of deer from the herd each yeah. Any opinions of track size to hunters or suggestions of any sort are appreciated.

This depends on where you are hunting obviously and how many deer you plan to take each year, but this sounds very high to me. I live in central texas where the whitetail density is one of the highest in the world and personally we try to keep it to no more than one hunter per 100 acres, and preferably per 200 acres.  Perhaps you could get away with more hunters if the area was overpopulated, but it sounds like you have the reverse and need to rebuild the herd

Our season started today. I ‘m not disappointed. I’ve seen quite a few bucks of a wide range in age. I seem to be the only one interested in hunting right now which gives me a chance to manage properly. got some turkey hens at the stand now. thank God for his many blessings. turns out the farm is about 310 acres and I must say, I think it has potential.

We have 500 acres and four hunters. Sometimes that seems too close. It would depend on how many were going to be hunting at the same time, direction of shots and all.

I dont think the total number of hunters matter, its only how many are in the woods at once. I have a 500 acre farm, and will only let 4-5 hunters in the woods at once. even though i have 12 different plots, and twice that many stands. 1 hunter per 100 acres is where its at. the total kill each year is also going to play a big number in your rehabing. if its as bad as you say, i would give it at least one season to come back before i hunted it. go hunt on your buddies place, and manage yours for next year, it worked for me.
