Tecomate Head Wildlife Biologist Rans Thomas and Gary LeVox, lead singer for Rascal Flatts
"I grew up hunting in Ohio and have a real passion for bow hunting Whitetails. After I purchased “Fast Cars and Freedom Farm” here in TN I started looking around for some help and guidance with managing the wildlife and growing some trophy bucks on the property. I called my good friend David Blanton and he told me to contact Rans Thomas with TCM. Rans came and spent a couple of days with us on the farm back in the summer of 07. I learned so much about the game that my farm was holding, what it could produce, and how to maximize that potential. Now almost 2 years later we are so excited with where our program is headed under Rans’s guidance. We installed new food plots and I now have beautiful perennial clover and chicory plots and summer lablab fields that stay loaded with game. Our turkey season this spring was unreal. We took 8 mature Toms, I took a FIVE bearded Tom with my bow, and most were taken on the new food plots. What I really like about working with Rans is that he talks in plain English about the scientific stuff, he keeps us focused on the priorities for building the program each year, and he has become a good friend that we like hunting and hanging out with. Managing my own property is as much a passion with me as hunting trophy whitetails and Tecomate Consulting is giving me the know how to do it right."

Rans Thomas with Steve Farris, Founding member and lead guitarist of the 80’s Rock Band Mister Mister
"Being a 41-year old obsessed water-fowler and an artist by nature, I have been for the past 8 years passionately developing and fine-tuning my own properties here in Nebraska, as well as that of others, to maximize their duck and goose hunting potential. I now have created what is thought of by some to be as fine a quality of water-fowling as God should allow a man. So, next I wanted to take my own whitetail program to that same level, but I had to face the fact that I’m a duck man and have only minimal knowledge when it comes to deer and turkey – yet I am rapidly gaining interest in their pursuit! Still, I didn’t know where to start until I was referred to TCM by some deer hunting friends of mine. In no time Rans Thomas was on my property pointing out numerous ways to improve the deer and turkey hunting on my tract and how to do it in line with my waterfowl program - perfect! And very important!! I learned so much, so fast. I wanted to have it all, but I didn't know if it could be done without hurting my waterfowl development…not a problem according to the Tecomate design and I am excited and anxious to start. Through Tecomate Consulting I now have a totally new outlook on managing my ranch and a new passion for growing trophy whitetails."

Dan Fletcher and Rans in lablab field on property
"I am the manager of a large farm in Georgia. The owners and our lease holders have been hunting deer on the farm for years but I wanted to increase the quality of the deer hunting for both and even take our private deer program to the next level by trying trophy deer management. We were practicing the basics of QDM and trying to increase the health and quality of our deer herd and we thought we were harvesting enough does. I still believed then what I learned in college – you can’t plant enough food plots to make a difference and they were only useful for hunting over. After only a brief tour of the farm back in 2005 with Rans Thomas of Tecomate Consulting I not only learned the importance of year round food plot nutrition using the right plants at the right time of year but he quickly outlined a direct path to achieving our goals. Rans also consulted with us on managing our hunting leases, quail project, timber, waterfowl, and wild turkeys. Now three years later we are light years ahead of where we would be without the help of TCM. We are really looking forward to watching this program continue to grow and even exceed our expectations."

Shooting a covey flush at Blalock Lakes
“I took the job as General Manager for Blalock Lakes Hunt Club in Newnan, GA after I got a call from Rans Thomas in 2006. Rans told me he was developing a premier wing shooting club for Cousin’s Properties and they were looking for a manager. My first question for him was what is Tecomate doing on a quail preserve. It didn’t take long working with Rans on the property after I was hired as Manager to realize that not only does Rans and TCM know Trophy Bucks but in just under three years he was instrumental in turning an old tree farm into a premier wing shooting preserve. We hosted our first hunts this year and clients told us the hunt compares to that of some of the elite southwest GA plantations they have hunted. Great flying quail, wild turkeys everywhere, 180 acres of trophy bass lakes, and we are even growing some good deer for our customers. NO, TCM is not just big bucks! If it has anything to do with wildlife and recreational property development…They know it!

2008 Monster 8 point
"My Dad and I purchased Lonely Live Oak Farm in southwest MS four years ago. I contacted Rans Thomas of TCM in 2005 to help us set our new property up for trophy deer management and hunting. Rans immediately had us ripping up 100 acres of old cattle pasture and we turned it into an awesome system of perennial and annual food plots. The first summer I was convinced we didn’t have many deer. The second summer after the plots went in and as Rans predicted we were wrapped up in deer counting over 100 deer on plots some days. Rans told us that our plots would draw deer from all around us and that was actually an understatement. Rans has us taking down a lot of does, taking out some management bucks, and protecting our young up-and-comers. We use Rans’s Plot D-Fence System™ on 30 acres of plots to be able to carry the number of deer we have and grow trophy bucks on high quality food plots. In 2007 my Dad took his biggest buck ever with a bow, a 5.5 year old, 140s class management 8 and I took a nice management 8. I also encountered the biggest buck of my life on the farm, even after hunting in KS and Minn but I didn’t get the shot. After just three years of managing with Tecomatea 160 class 8 POINT!showed up on trail camera this year! Is it working...YES!"

I’ve been operating my own trophy whitetail outfitting business near Sedan, KS for a few years now. We’ve taken some great bucks but after watching “The Bucks of Tecomate” and reading up on what TCM was doing for their clients I decided to contact them. Rans Thomas came out in November of 2008 to help us with managing our hunting properties. One of my clients took a monster 160 class buck while Rans was here. He took a look at the jaw bone and informed us that the buck was ONLY 3.5! I’ll never forget what he told me…Lucas, its 3.5 year old 160 class bucks that can make 200+ inch bucks when they truly mature. I’m on board now! We are planting Tecomate plots this spring, installing Rans’s Plot D-Fence System to manage our hunting plots, and we are learning all we can from TCM on managing the herd to grow bigger buck for my clients. Rans did take a fine buck while here, a 150 class, 5.5 year old, 280 pound 9 point – a buck that needed to come out and not one that needed to grow a few more years like we used to shoot before Rans got involved.
