Duncan Dobie has been a full-time, free-lance writer and photographer since the early 1980s. He has long specialized in writing about white-tailed deer. Over the years, he has earned a reputation is being one of the nation's top authorities on whitetails. He has written over 1,500 feature magazine articles and sold hundreds of photos to virtually all of the major whitetail and outdoor magazines.
Duncan was a regular contributor to Georgia Sportsman and North American Whitetail for over 25 years. He had a story in the very first issue of North American Whitetail in 1983, and he has published dozens of stories in that magazine since. In 2004, he became editor of North American Whitetail and served in that position for six years. He also appeared on TV in numerous episodes of North American Whitetail Television. He resigned his position as editor in 2009 to pursue other opportunities.
Duncan has written six books, contributed to numerous others and helped edit and produce a number of books for other writers. His first book, Georgia's Greatest Whitetails (476 pages with 220 photos) published in 1986, was a comprehensive history of white-tailed deer in Georgia. The book, now out-of-print, was immensely popular both locally and across the U.S and Canada. Since its publication, the book has been used as a reference book by various state wildlife
agencies, and a number of stories from the book have been excerpted in prominent magazines. Other books include White Tales and Other Hunting Stories published in 1989, Producing Power Bucks published in 2002 and Whitetail Dawn published in 2006.
Duncan and his wife Kappi have two daughters and five grandchildren. They have been volunteers at Camp Sunshine, an organization that sponsors programs for children with cancer in Georgia, for the past 27 years. Duncan lives in Marietta, Georgia.
