Tecomate hunt in Nebraska produces DREAM buck!
Friends of Tecomate.com, You've probably been introduced to me through our web site bio page but let me take this opportunity to more formally introduce myself. My name is Rans Thomas. I am from GA and I'm the Head Wildlife Biologist for Tecomate Wildlife Systems. Some folks tell me that I have "The dream job" and most often I have to agree. I consult with landowners across the U.S. and show them how to make their hunting and wildlife management dreams come true using the Tecomate System. This work leads me to making some great friends out there that love hunting and working their land as much as I do. One such friend in NE that I worked for last spring asked me to join his deer lease and take a more personal roll in its management. Having been on the tract and seen its potential I eagerly accepted. I asked members of the Tecomate Consulting and Properties team from N.C. to join me. We went up in August to plant Tecomate plots and hang stands. We returned in September with bows in hand for opening day. The whitetails on this property bed in dense Russian olive thickets along the river and move into the 50 acre alfalfa field in the afternoon. Our strategy was simple...catch them coming and going on the food plots and trails. I've been bow hunting since I was 13 but never have I had so many deer and young bucks in bow range on one hunt. I missed a perfect shot on a 14 point that would have scored in the 150s but after videoing him the next day I was relieved I missed as he is only 3.5 YEARS OLD. My peep site had moved ½ inch south on my string dropping the arrow 8". After re-adjustment I was back on zero. I named him "Lucky Tines" and hope we meet again in a year or two. My friend, Frank Jones, did connect with a 5.5 year old bruiser. He got a 33 yard shot from his ground blind as the buck made his way to the alfalfa on the first day of the hunt. The main frame 9 point had 11 stickers over an inch and green gross scored 187" B&C. Congratulations Frank! Man what a hunt. I can't wait to get back in October. I wish you all a safe and rewarding hunting season for 2007/2008. Good Luck, Rans Thomas
